General Regulations

In addition to set eligibility criteria and nomination processes for each of the initiatives, please refer to the General Regulations below.

General Regulations


  1. Bursaries and Scholarships are available to First Nation, Inuit and Métis. Proof of ancestry is required.
  2. Previous applications that did not receive an award or scholarship may be resubmitted in subsequent years by following the same nomination procedures. No limit will be placed on the number of times a nomination may be resubmitted.
  3. Previous recipients may reapply for the same scholarship to enhance their certificate credits, not including previously paid courses.
  4. Applications must be accompanied by supportive materials of acceptable quality. The ILC reserves the right to determine what constitutes acceptable quality and to set aside any nomination accompanied by supportive materials of unacceptable quality.
  5. No nomination or expression of support for an application may be made by a current member of the ILC or AFOA Canada National Boards unless a conflict of interest is declared, or by a direct family member of a serving board or staff member.
  6. Former Members of the ILC or AFOA Canada National Boards may apply for a bursary or scholarship one year after their term has ended.
  7. Former Members of ILC or AFOA Chapter Boards may apply for a bursary or scholarship one year after their term has ended.
  8. The ILC reserves the right not to confer any or all of the awards or scholarships in a given year.
  9. The ILC reserves the right to amend the above regulations, revoke a bursary or scholarship when such a measure is deemed warranted.
  10. The ILC will look at the status of the applicants based on date of submission.
