Scholarships

Scholarships are available to anyone who wishes to take AFOA Canada courses. These are intended to offset registration costs for AFOA Canada courses and help qualified candidates who do not have the financial resources required to pursue one of AFOA Canada’s designations or attend professional development courses.


ILC general scholarships are available taking AFOA Canada programs or courses in the following categories:

Online Course Scholarship: For candidates who wish to take an online course in the CAFM, CAPA, or CIHRP programs, available through AFOA Canada. This scholarship will offset the cost of one course.

Cohort Scholarship: Available to participants who will enroll in the CAPA, CIL, CIHRP or CEIL Hybrid (In-Person/Virtual) programs. These scholarships will offset 50% of the tuition.

Workshop Scholarship: For anyone who will participate in a Capacity Development Workshop from AFOA Canada. Scholarship will cover the cost of one workshop.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be First Nations, Inuit or Métis.
  • Employed in a financial and/or management position and/or attending school as a full-time student.
  • Reside or work in an Indigenous community/organization.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need.
Submission Requirements

All application packages must include:

  • Proof AFOA Canada membership or proof of application to membership.
  • Proof of Indigenous ancestry.
  • Completed questionnaire and application form
  • Two Letters of Reference, Recommendation and/or Support.

Entry requirements, program acceptance, course availability and location of course delivery are determined by AFOA Canada. Applying for and/or being awarded a scholarship from the ILC does not constitute application nor acceptance into AFOA Canada programs. Step-by-Step Application Process


  1. Review the General Regulations for the Scholarship & Bursary programs.
  2. Review the eligibility criteria and submission requirements.
  3. Complete an application form and submit it, along with the additional required documents, in one of four ways listed below. Keep a copy of the application package for your personal records.
  4. The ILC Selection Review Committee will review applications that have been submitted in full and on time.
  5. All applicants, successful or otherwise, will be notified of the ILC Selection Review Committee’s decision regarding their application.
